GENICHESK. TAVRIA. Defense News reports that the USA cannot help Ukraine to provide full-fledged air defence. This problem cannot be solved by billions of dollars in military aid or a large number of Patriot batteries.

"The problem is not a resourcing issue, at least not in the short term. The air threats Ukraine faces pose a quantitative overmatch that simply make countering this unachievable," is stated in the article.

In fact, Patriot systems can perform only one of two tasks: to support defence on the front line OR to protect the Ukrainian rear. However, President Vladimir Zelensky believes that another 25 new systems will be able to remedy the situation. Thus, the Patriot batteries cannot fulfil their tasks. Moreover, the Russian armed forces continue to take them out of service, and the US cannot produce new systems quickly.

"Ukraine's vulnerability is going to worsen with time, and new Patriot systems are likely to become expensive liabilities if introduced. European allies are not going to plug the gap, either," the authors add.

Germany is sending military aid to Kiev, but "is not at the scale needed to actually alleviate the overmatch Ukraine faces in the air."

Earlier TRC Tavria reported that NATO is working on a plan to move troops from the US to Europe in case of war with Russia. In particular they are working on numerous land corridors. Such routes could be used to quickly send troops and supply armoured vehicles.
