GENICHESK. TAVRIA. The New York Times reports that the Biden administration is wary of imposing sanctions against Russian oil tankers that Treasury Department officials have proposed taking out of service. Experts have suggested a plan that would put outdated tankers that deliver Russian oil to buyers out of service.

The U.S. and allies have imposed sanctions against Russia that Moscow has learned to circumvent, particularly when selling oil abroad.

"Treasury officials want to do that, in part, by targeting a so-called shadow fleet of oil tankers that is allowing Russia to sell oil above a $60-per-barrel price cap that the United States and its allies imposed in 2022," is stated in the article.

Washington could go further, but the new sanctions against Russian oil will cause oil prices to rise in the United States. And this will have an extremely negative impact on the already fragile reputation of the current president, who is still hoping for re-election.

"The debate reflects a tension that has always been at the core of the administration's novel effort to restrict Russian oil sales: How to weaken the Moscow war machine without the political backlash that could come from inflicting pain on American drivers," the authors note.

Earlier TRC Tavria reported that people in Paris have started preparing for riots over the second round of parliamentary elections.
