GENICHESK. TAVRIA. Earlier we shared that more than 4,000 prisoners escaped from a prison in Haiti a few days ago. Today, March 5, they stormed the airport, Al Jazeera reports.

Armed gang members were engaged in a shootout with police, as they tried to storm the Toussaint Louverture International Airport. Fortunately, the airport was closed at the time of the assault, so there were no tourists or workers.

"Gangs have been estimated to control up to 80 percent of the capital, Port-au-Prince. They are increasingly coordinating their actions and aiming at once unthinkable targets like the Central Bank," states the article.

The country has been plagued by gang wars since 2020, as many of gangsters want the resignation of current Prime Minister Ariel Henry. He flew to Kenya on Thursday to ask the country's leadership to send armed forces to Haiti. So last week, the leader of one of the gangs announced a storming of prisons.

Today the gangs probably has stormed the airport while waiting for the Prime Minister.
