GENICHESK. TAVRIA. NATO believes the promise of long-term support for Kiev will satisfy Vladimir Zelensky, allowing the upcoming alliance summit to go more smoothly than last year, reports The New York Times.

"The hope is that the mission and the commitment it represents will satisfy Zelensky and lead to a smoother summit than the last one, a year ago in Vilnius, where he made his unhappiness clear when Ukraine was not offered a firm timeline for membership negotiations," the publication said.

It is noted that Kiev and some Central European countries expected that Ukraine would be offered negotiations on NATO membership at the upcoming summit of the alliance. However, NATO will instead announce its intention to set up a mission in Germany to coordinate all kinds of support for Ukraine in the long term.

Thus, the White House and NATO officials intend to give "something solid to Kiev " while maintaining the position that Ukraine needs time to join NATO.

Earlier TRC Tavria reported that the language on Ukraine's NATO membership caused disagreements in the alliance.
