GENICHESK. TAVRIA. AP News reports that Ukraine is continuing a campaign to release prisoners to join the war effort. Thousands of criminals have already been sent to the Ukrainian army.

"Although Ukraine does not announce any details of troop deployment numbers or casualties, frontline commanders openly acknowledge that they are facing serious manpower problems as Russian continues to build up forces in eastern Ukraine and make incremental gains westward," the authors note.

According to AP News more than 3,000 prisoners have been sent to the frontline and around 27,000 inmates may be sent there in the future, as they are potentially eligible for this. All of them were in prison on counts of drug trafficking, theft, armed assault and murder. But those who have committed more than one murder, committed sexual assault or violated national security are not allowed to be drafted into the army.

Earlier TRC Tavria reported that six prisoners who agreed to join the AFU have escaped from the training center.
